Somerset Alley

At its core, my work is about specificity. It deals with the precise truths and experiences of my life, embracing the exclusion, confusion, and maximalism that come from trying to represent a person completely. These paintings are autobiographical by nature - in many works, multiple realities mesh into one. In one scene I am five, living in a house with a hole in its center, my brothers at the helm of my life, and in the same scene I am twenty, allowing my work to be less precious for the first time, paint not quite reaching the edges of the panel.
